Over Under and Around
The viaducts serve as a transition over the Beatty Street escarpment and are an effective east-west connector for vehicles and bicycles. Retaining the viaducts provides an opportunity to lift heavy traffic flows off the ground and create a diverse and walkable neighbourhood at grade. We propose to reconnect Chinatown with False Creek, and create a vertically layered mixed-use urban quarter where building usage is determined by the proximity of the viaduct.
