The Wildcard - Submission #51
Wild Card: The New Vancouver Art Gallery as a means of Vitalizing the Georgia Viaducts and its Surrounding Area
Rather than viewing the Georgia Viaducts as a scar on the city, the proposal seeks to celebrate the unique urban character of the Georgia Viaducts and the surrounding context. Curving viaducts, snaking sky train rails, disappearing alleyways, abrupt elevation changes; this proposal draws on of all of these qualities in its design in an attempt to make sense of this unique urban context. Building the new VAG between the viaducts with an adjoining public square could transform this area from a disregarded district into an exciting public and cultural zone.
